The idea mixture is extremely unstable and quickly reaches a critical point, resulting in a small explosion. The primary force of the idea is channeled upwards along the Frenoulli coil (F) which provides a sort of distillation. Waste energy from this distillation powers a lightbulb indicator (G), signalling to the observer that an idea is transpiring. (It is this indicator bulb, paradoxically the most extraneous part of the apparatus, which is so often referenced in cartoons, appearing above characters' heads at moments of inspiration.)
