Upstairs, the protein solution is run through an ordinary vacuum devacillator. Although it is unusual to put anything other than a vacuum into a devacillator, it can be done in certain situations and it serves our purpose quite well. Note that the devacillator is isolated from its surroundings by the pneumatic platform on which it rests - this is to prevent any environmental disturbances from causing discontinuities in the substrate. |
