The Cloisters
The Cloisters are all that remains of the eleventh-century Benedictine monastery which once occupied the site where the Municipal Art Gallery now stands. Restored to their original, monastically drab appearance by an international team of experts, they are the architectural pride of the Gallery. Although open to the elements, the unparalleled light of this location is thought by the curator to be essential for viewing the current exhibit: a selection of pencil drawings from Dave Grossman's seminal work, "Ode to the Stuff in the Sink."

Dave Grossman, 2002
Pencil
A fine example of Grossman's simple but effective style, this piece demonstrates the combination of humor and bleak fatalism which colors so much of the artist's work. |

Note the intricate yet sloppy line work, characteristic of Grossman's "grey period," which usually occurs late in the afternoon.
