Younger

Smoothing the wrinkles and buttoning the nose
Page one and two as the surgery goes
Inflating the cheeks and concealing the truth
Relentless pursuit of additional youth
Thinning the hair out, reducing the limbs
Removing the teeth to put tiny ones in
Diapers and onesies for dressing for younger
Elaborate formula feeding the hunger
Of course, if you seem to be tender of age
Slender maturity likewise is gauged
Drawn by the precious few years you project
A picture of trouble inspiring respect
Some phony bifocals can go a long way
Highlighted laugh lines and counterfeit grey
A wardrobe outdated, antique, and passe
A well-practiced stoop and some quaint things to say
And the day that you start looking older mysteriously
Is the day you will finally be taken seriously
A wise elder figure, like Mom or the pope
Though that also might not be all you had hoped

Check out "Ode to the Stuff in the Sink," Dave's illustrated book of "guy" verse (concerning the deeper philosophies of things like not doing the laundry, putting your feet on the furniture, and of course beer) at the Maximegalomporium (our store). And did I mention it was illustrated? Pictures!
