It's been raining lately, and that always rouses the massive beasties that live underground. No, not giant worms....

One Ant More or Less

One ant more or less
Will not detract from or enhance
Your basic human happiness
Nor the feelings of the ants
Society is what's essential
The units are inconsequential
Infinitesimal potential
But by the thousands exponential
A crawling many-headed beast
A lava flow of jaws and feet
A nearly uncountable number of feet
Swarming over things to eat
Carried away to feed the fleet
An individual or troop
Is hardly cause for trepidation
But the focused efforts of the group
Accomplish massive operations
And the group's in my kitchen, bold and convivial
That's my food heading back to its nest
While I feel as helplessly, hopelessly trivial
As one ant, more or less
